After winning this year’s Prototype Challenge championship, Mike Guasch is set to return to PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports in 2014, with the likelihood of defending his title at the wheel of the team’s Oreca FLM09 car.

The Molecule Labs-backed driver confirmed Thursday his participation with the Bobby Oergel-led squad for next weekend’s Roar Before the Rolex 24, while evaluating a full-season program in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

“With all the changes happening in sports car racing, we weren’t sure where the chips would fall,” Guasch said. “After seeing the strengths of the Tudor USCC come together, specifically in PC, we’re really excited about the outlook.

“It’s a great schedule in top markets, with some of the world’s most prestigious endurance races and now with the unified series, the best competition.”

Guasch said he’s still finalizing details with the team, although his chances of returning are quite strong.

“We’re going to the Roar with eyes on competing for the Prototype Challenge championship,” he said. “There’s still a few things to come together, but we’re looking forward to taking the green for the Rolex 24.”

PR1, which was one of ten teams awarded entries for the PC class, is expected to confirm its full lineup in the coming days.
