Heinrich Sets Pace in Practice 2 at Road Atlanta

The No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport entry piloted by Laurin Heinrich posted a session-best 1:10.639 time in the second practice session for Saturday’s Motul Petit Le Mans.

Heinrich topped Laurens Vanthoor, who was second quickest in the No. 6 Porsche 963, by 0.044 seconds. The Battle of the Bricks-winning No. 24 BMW M Team WRT ran third with a lap set by Sheldon van der Linde

Bijoy Garg set the pace in the early minutes for the LMP2 field in the No. 43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca 07 Gibson at 1:12.732. The No. 99 AO Racing entry, driven by Jonny Edgar, followed in second as the only other car in class to enter the 1:12 bracket.

Inter Europol, with full-time drivers Jeremy Clarke and Tom Dillmann, lead the LMP2 standings by four points over the No. 04 CrowdStrike Racing by APR entry.

Risi Competizione led the GTD Pro field with Daniel Serra registering a 1:19.271 lap. Ben Barker posted a time that was 0.063 seconds behind the Brazilian for the No. 65 Ford Racing Mustang GT3 EVO.

In the final race weekend of the Lexus RC F GT3 in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Aaron Telitz posted a GT-best 1:18.930 for the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Racing car. He finished with a lap that was 0.192 seconds ahead of Lorenzo Patrese in the No. 34 Conquest Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo.

The red flag was displayed 12 minutes into the 1 hour, 45 minute session when Daniel Goldberg stuck his No. 22 United Autosports Oreca in the Turn 5 barrier. Goldberg is still mathematically alive for the class title entering qualifying. 

Thomas Preining stopped his No. 911 Manthey Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo at the bottom of the Esses at Turn 4 with just over 30 minutes remaining to halt the session.

Chris Cumming ran into the wall and beached his No. 73 Pratt Miller Motorsports LMP2 entry at Turn 6.

Practice resumed with less than three minutes to go.

Fifty-three of the 54 cars ran competitive laps. The GTD point-leading No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo was completed minimal laps due to a throttle issue.

Night practice begins at 7:30 p.m. EST.
