Corvette DPs dominated the second one-hour practice for this weekend’s Continental Tire Road Race Showcase, with a 1-2-3 sweep of the Saturday morning session at Road America.
Jordan Taylor led the way in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing entry at 1:57.118 in the car he’ll share with brother Ricky. Christian Fittipaldi was second in the No. 5 Action Express Racing entry at 1:57.234 and Richard Westbrook third in the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona car at 1:57.868.
Scott Sharp was quickest of the P2-spec machinery, fifth overall at 1:58.059 in the No. 1 Extreme Speed Motorsports HPD ARX-03b, and nearly one second off the overall lead (0.941). Katherine Legge took the DeltaWing coupe to within six tenths of Sharp at 1:58.656, P8 overall in the No. 0 entry.
The session ended a little more than a minute early due to an off for Gustavo Yacaman in the No. 42 OAK Racing Morgan Nissan at Canada Corner. The cause of the incident is unknown; it did not appear an unforced error and could well have been caused by a mechanical issue.
Jack Hawksworth led his second straight Prototype Challenge session, with the first sub-2-minute lap of the weekend at 1:59.876 in the No. 08 RSR Racing Oreca FLM09. Luis Daiz and Colin Braun were next.
Ferrari led the GT Le Mans class with Giancarlo Fisichella at 2:05.549 in the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari F458 Italia. Antonio Garcia was second in the No. 3 Corvette Racing Corvette C7.R at 2:05.737, with Jonathan Bomarito third in the No. 93 SRT Motorsports Dodge SRT Viper GTS-R at 2:05.860.
Flying Lizard Motorsports paced GT Daytona with Spencer Pumpelly in the No. 45 Audi R8 LMS at 2:10.427; Kevin Estre was second in the No. 73 Park Place Motorsports Porsche 911 GT America and Andy Lally was third in the No. 44 Magnus Racing Porsche 911 GT America.
A third one-hour practice occurs from 3:10 to 4:10 p.m., just before qualifying later this afternoon.
