A late flyer from Juan Pablo Montoya has put Acura Team Penske quickest in an incident-filled second practice session for the Bubba Burger Grand Prix of Long Beach.
The Colombian’s 1:13.160 lap put the No. 6 Acura ARX-05 on top of the time sheets in the 45-minute session that saw two red flags for accidents.
Eric Curran brushed the wall twice in the No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R, with the second incident leaving the car’s rear deck on track and bringing out a red.
While Curran continued with a new rear deck, co-driver Felipe Nasr’s 1:13.210 lap held as the second quickest of the stop-start session.
A second red came out with 15 minutes to go for the No. 85 JDC-Miller Motorsports Oreca 07 Gibson of Robert Alon, who stopped on track.
Action resumed with seven minutes to go on the clock.
In addition to Curran’s incident, a number of other drivers found the concrete barriers in the session, including the No. 24 BMW M8 GTE of John Edwards and Scott Sharp’s No. 2 Tequila Patron ESM Nissan Onroak DPi.
There was also trouble for the No. 77 Team Joest Mazda RT24-P, which had problems re-firing on pit road on multiple occasions.
The No. 4 Corvette C7.R of Oliver Gavin paced the GT Le Mans class, ahead of the pair of Porsche 911 RSRs, led by the No. 911 entry of Laurens Vanthoor.
Qualifying gets underway at 5:45 p.m. PT.
