Morand Racing’s Morgan-Judd LMP2 car could be making a trip Stateside following next month’s FIA WEC season-ending Six Hours of Bahrain, with the Swiss squad closing in on a support deal for a planned Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup effort.
The Benoit Morand-led team would support an undisclosed veteran IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge squad for the potential four-race program with its open-top P2 contender.
“We’d just be supporting it,” Morand told Sportscar365. “The P1 Groupe, with Eric Burch, is in charge to put the program together.
“As of today, 70 percent of the budget is here. I hope we can do it.”
Should the program get the green light, Morand said they would upgrade their existing Judd-based powerplant from its current 4.0-liter displacement to 4.2 liters, to accommodate IMSA’s increased power output.
“I think this car would be very good at Daytona,” Morand said. “It’s very exciting because Daytona is one of the best endurance races in the world.
“I also think the car will be very good there. We’d be very proud to do that.”
