The No. 55 Team Joest Mazda RT24-P has been rebuilt around a new chassis overnight following Jonathan Bomarito’s accident in qualifying for this afternoon’s Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach.

Bomarito made contact with the Turn 6 barriers after clipping the inside wall during his qualifying run for the third round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

While it initially appeared that only minor damage was sustained, with the Californian driving the car back to the pits, it was later determined that the tub was cracked in the incident.

Crew from Team Joest and Multimatic worked through the night rebuilding the DPi car around a new tub, which was already on-site.

Bomarito qualified the car in fifth although will start from the rear of the 11-car DPi grid due to the change.

The race gets underway at 2 p.m. PT.
