Christina Nielsen has confirmed her switch on Wednesday from TRG-AMR North America to Scuderia Corsa for the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

The young Dane finished second in this year’s GT Daytona championship, incidentally to Scuderia Corsa’s then pairing of Townsend Bell and Bill Sweedler, following a year where she scored five podiums including four runner-up results.

Her move is the latest in a busy GT silly season that has seen Bell and Sweedler, Bryan Sellers and Kuno Wittmer also move teams or in the latter two drivers’ cases, classes.

For Nielsen, the move to the new Ferrari 488 GT3 and the Giacomo Mattioli-led squad is the next step in the continued growth of her career.

“I’m very honored to have been given the chance to race with Scuderia Corsa and become a part of the Ferrari family,” Nielsen said.

“I think the new car looks amazing and I can’t wait to race it because i think it’s going to be very competitive.

“I also want to thank TRG for a great season in 2015 and everything they have done for me. However we were presented an opportunity for 2016 that we just couldn’t say no to and I am very thankful that Giacomo and his team has decided to take me in.

“I believe in our program 100 percent and will be back fighting for the top step of the championship.”

“We are thrilled that Christina will be joining us in the 2016 WeatherTech championship,” Mattioli said. “We learned quite a bit during last season about what a strong competitor she is.

“She is a tremendous talent, and a mature racer. With Christina at the wheel we are ready to battle for another championship. I believe our no. 63 will be a contender.”

Nielsen’s co-driver will be revealed at a later date. However, as she remains Silver-rated for 2016, she’ll have a new pro alongside with Wittmer having been confirmed late last week to be one of BMW Team RLL’s endurance drivers.
