The No. 38 Performance Tech Motorsports Oreca 07 Gibson has been withdrawn from this weekend’s Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park following Kyle Masson’s accident in opening practice on Friday.
Masson lost control of the LMP2 contender at the high-speed Turn 1 in the closing stages of the session, resulting in significant rear-end damage.
It comes on the heels of the team’s race-ending accident in last weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, which set into motion a full rebuild in the days leading up to Friday’s start of on-track action at CTMP.
“We’ve got 200 hours of work on the car since Watkins Glen and I just can’t put the guys through that again,” team principal Brent O’Neill said.
“They did a great job last weekend after The Glen so we’re just going to switch our focus to the MPC guys and work on some podiums there.
“We hate to see the weekend end like this but after such a hard hit it’s the right choice for everyone.”
The Florida-based team will shift its focus to Sunday’s IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda race, where it has multiple cars entered.
O’Neill said the team will return to full strength in the next WeatherTech Championship Prototype race at Road America in August.
