BAR1 Motorsports announced Friday the first driver for its planned two-car effort for next weekend’s Mobil  1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, confirming Martin Plowman to pilot one of its Oreca FLM09s.

The 2013 FIA WEC LMP2 champion, who recently announced that he will compete in this year’s Indianapolis 500 for AJ Foyt Racing, will make his Prototype Challenge debut following two seasons of LMP2 competition.

“Brian has a very strong and ambitious program with one of the best engineers in the business so I know the car will be fast enough to win,” Plowman said. “I can’t wait to start work next week with my new co-drivers and team.

“Sebring is such a historic race and one that every driver would love to add to their resume, especially a second time around! This race came as a great surprise to me. I was due to have a quiet weekend at home, but now I’ll be busy packing for a week in Florida!”

While not getting a drive at Daytona, Plowman worked with the BAR1 team through his role as ambassador of Snowball Express, which served as the car’s primary sponsor for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season-opener.

“We worked with Martin and Snowball Express at Daytona, and to have him join us as a driver completes the package,” team owner Brian Alder said.

“Martin’s experience in prototype cars will help elevate our entire teams effort over the course of the week. He is a true professional and we are proud to have him be a part of our team.”

BAR1’s complete lineup for Sebring will be revealed on Monday.
