PR1 Ligier crashes out on top of barriers, Porsche pit stop fire in second hour…

The PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Ligier JS P217 Gibson has crashed out of the Motul Petit Le Mans, while a pit stop fire for Porsche led to an incident-filled second hour at Road Atlanta.

Jose Gutierrez’s PR1 car crashed into the barriers at Turn 5 with the car going on top of the tires. The race was put under caution while his car was retrieved and Gutierrez walked away from the scene unharmed.

It was the second full course caution period of the hour after one was called earlier to collect debris from the track.

Kenny Habul picked up a WeatherTech board on his SunEnergy1 Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 calling for the caution while the banner was picked up.

A pit stop fire broke out during the caution in the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR’s pit box. All crew members escaped unharmed although one mechanic was taken to the medical center a precautionary measure.

Tequila Patron ESM is still leading the race 1-2 although with limited green-flag running since the end of the first hour.

Ryan Dalziel is out front in the No. 2 Nissan Onroak DPi while Bill Auberlen leads the GTLM field and Andy Lally and James French remain out front in GT Daytona and Prototype Challenge.
