Alexander Rossi has gotten a late call up to be part of Wayne Taylor Racing’s lineup in this weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

The NTT IndyCar Series star will rejoin DPi points leaders Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque at the wheel of the team’s Acura ARX-05 for the third round of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup.

While having been part of the team for the opening two Endurance Cup rounds at Daytona and Sebring, Rossi was not initially scheduled for the six-hour enduro at Watkins Glen International.

Team owner Wayne Taylor explained: “We’re bringing Rossi back on board for this race. Under normal circumstances we wouldn’t bring a third driver, but since it could be hot, we’ll need someone else.

“Ricky and Filipe do such a good job together. I can’t wait to get back.”

The majority of the DPi field have opted for three-driver lineups, with WTR, Meyer Shank Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing the only three cars that were on the provisional entry list that had listed only its season-long WeatherTech SportsCar Championship pilots.

It’s unclear if MSR or CGR will follow WTR in adding a third driver.

“[I’m] thrilled to get the opportunity to go back and race at Watkins Glen as it is one of my favorite tracks in the world,” said Rossi.

“I wasn’t originally planning on joining WTR and Acura for this event, but I will do everything in my power to assist them on and off the track to ensure they continue to be in control of this championship.”

Rossi teamed with Albuquerque, Taylor and Helio Castroneves for victory in January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona and finished fourth in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

He is slated to also contest the season-ending Motul Petit Le Mans with the team in November.
