Nick Tandy set the fastest overall lap time in Friday’s two one-hour practice sessions for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America, with both sessions heavily affected by rain.

Tandy’s best time of 2:23.218 came in the second session in the No. 911 Porsche North America Porsche 911 RSR.

The best Prototype time on the day came from Richard Westbrook at 2:24.480 in the No. 90 VisitFlorida.com Racing Corvette DP.

Renger van der Zande (2:26.556) led Prototype Challenge and Spencer Pumpelly (2:37.533) led GT Daytona, with all three of those times also occurring in the second session.

Times improved in the second one-hour session, with 21 of 33 cars setting times in the opening 19 minutes before a red flag at the 20-minute mark.

Matt McMurry stopped on track at Turn 5 in the BAR1 Motorsports Oreca FLM09, having dropped oil on course in the repaired PC car. It brought out a half hour-long red flag for track cleanup.

The rain intensified after the red flag, and only a handful cars went on a still wet track from that point in the final 10 minutes. All told, 23 cars took times in the second session.

McMurry’s issue was the second of the day for BAR1, after co-driver Daniel Burkett aquaplaned at the Kink and damaged the nose assembly in first practice.

Both Burkett and Mikhail Goikhberg, who brought out reds in the first practice, limped their cars back to the pit lane under their own power.

Class leaders in first practice included Conor Daly (2:27.182), Wolf Henzler (2:30.669), Ozz Negri (2:31.611) and Christopher Haase (2:39.270).

Only 18 cars set representative times in the primarily wet first practice session.

The third practice runs from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. CT and local time on Saturday morning.
