The Racer’s Group has announced an expansion into the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America Series for 2016, which will see the multi-time championship-winning squad field a Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo this season.
James Davison returns to the Kevin Buckler-owned team for this weekend’s season-opener at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, alongside team regular Derek DeBoer in the Lamborghini effort.
Davison, meanwhile, will also take part in Sunday’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race in TRG-AMR’s Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 with Brandon Davis.
It marks TRG’s foray into the increasingly popular single-make series, which features a six-round calendar this season, mostly on WeatherTech Championship weekends.
“This is definitely an exciting new chapter in the history of TRG as we are debuting a new program with Lamborghini at one of our favorite events here at Laguna Seca,” Buckler said.
“Derek DeBoer and co-driver James Davison are going to make one heck of a team in the Lamborghini, and although Brandon and James have driven together before, it was part of a bigger squad.
“This is the first time that they will be doing a sprint race. The team did an excellent job with preparation and we’re ready.”
The California-based team has already completed an initial test with its new Super Trofeo car ahead of this weekend’s season-opener in Monterey.
