Justin Wilson will make an unexpected return to the cockpit aboard the No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Ligier JS P2 Honda for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the team confirmed Wednesday.
The Englishman replaces the previously announced Matt McMurry for Sebring alongside Ozz Negri and John Pew.
McMurry is still scheduled to race at Sebring in the IMSA Prototype Lites division with JDC Motorsports, as that series kicks off its season. McMurry remains part of the team in a test and development role.
“I’m really excited to be back with Mike (Shank) and to drive the new car and hopefully we can bring Honda a big result,” Wilson said. “Everyone has raved about it and I know Ozz (Negri) and John (Pew) just love driving it. Thank you to Mike Shank for bringing me on board.”
This will be the second consecutive Sebring start for Wilson with Shank, and 14th overall with the Ohio-based team. He has also raced at Sebring in the American Le Mans Series at Sebring in 2002 & 2004 in an Ascari KRZ1 and Lola B2K/10, respectively.
The team has tested at Sebring and Wilson visited the team’s shop last week.
Wilson does not have a confirmed program yet in IndyCar for 2015, where he has raced the last 11 seasons.
