Wright Motorsports will not take part in this week’s WeatherTech 240 at The Glen, with the Porsche GT Daytona squad focused on the full-season championship instead.

Despite its No. 16 Porsche 911 GT3 R having been confirmed on the entry list for Friday’s two-hour and 40-minute race, a team representative has told Sportscar365 that the Patrick Long and Trent Hindman-driven entry will not be taking part in the round, as was the case with the WeatherTech Sprint Cup-only event in Detroit earlier this month.

The WeatherTech 240 is the second of two races on the schedule that count only towards Sprint Cup only points.

“The primary reason is that it’s a non-points paying event, and we are focused on the overall championship,” a team statement read.

Wright will still participate in Friday’s Michelin Pilot Challenge race with Ryan Hardwick and Jan Heylen at the wheel of its Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

The team’s non-appearance in the WeatherTech Championship race will result in a reduced 30-car grid for the race.
