Newly formed YRB Racing has announced the acquisition of Van der Steur Racing, effective immediately, which will see a new driver lineup for its Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo in this weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.
Van der Steur Racing team manager and engineer Christopher Deely has taken over as team principal of YRB, which filed for a business license in the state of Delaware in February.
Rory van der Steur, the son of former team owner Gunnar van der Steur, is no longer part of the driver lineup, with Trenton Estep and Marius Fossard brought in this weekend alongside Aston Martin factory driver Valentin Hasse Clot in the GTD class entry, which has been re-numbered to No. 068 and in full white, which the team has called ‘Car Blanche.’
The news came less than 48 hours before cars are due to take to the track for practice, with the IMSA pre-event entry list still having still showed the car’s former lineup and team name.
“First and foremost, we would like to thank Gunnar and Rory for their support over the past six seasons. Starting in TCR and making it all the way to GTD in our fifth season was an amazing journey,” said Deely in a statement.
“We are ready to apply all of our experience from van der Steur Racing to grow YRB Racing with our customers and partners as we push for a winning future.”
Rory van der Steur, meanwhile, wrote on social media on Wednesday: “Man it was a wild ride. Today marks the end of Van der Steur Racing. A childhood dream come true thanks to each and every person that was apart of it through the years.
“Growing up racing was a part of our family and couldn’t be at the dinner table without talking about it. Never would of thought it would become what it did, but by surrounding yourself with the right people, it made that part easier.
“Some of the coolest stories of my life came through these years and will cherish them forever.
“To everyone that helped build it, thank you.”
