Mike Johnson will take on an expanded role with Park Place Motorsports as its new director of race operations, as the team branches out into customer racing for 2019.

Johnson will oversee Park Place Porsche and Park Place Motorsports’ plan to further its client relationship by creating a customer program, while also expanding its development program in coordination with Porsche Motorsport North America.

He joined the team this year as its race strategist in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and formerly worked with VOLT Racing in Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.

Park Place additionally fielded a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car for David Kolkmann in the IMSA Porsche GT3 Challenge USA by Yokohama series this year.

“I am very excited to be joining Park Place Motorsports as they start the next chapter in their long history,” Johnson said. “Patrick [Lindsey] is one of the true class acts in the IMSA paddock, and I am happy to help him grow the new Park Place enterprise.

“He has some pretty big plans for the future of his team and partners; I just hope I can keep up.”

The team has yet to announce its 2019 program although a return to WeatherTech Championship competition is among those on the table.
