Danny Formal set the fastest time across a pair of Friday practice sessions ahead of the opening two rounds of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

The Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport driver’s fastest lap of 1:24.625 in the morning session put his Pro class No. 1 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 atop the overall timesheet for the day.

Formal and third-year co-driver Kyle Marcelli continued to display their championship-winning speed from last season, as Marcelli topped the afternoon practice session with a 1:26.324 lap time.

TR3 Racing’s Giano Taurino set the second fastest overall time, just 0.325 seconds off of Formal’s morning benchmark.

Tom Capizzi’s Pro-Am class No. 46 Precision Performance Motorsports Lamborghini was third fastest overall, just under four tenths off the pace.

Marc Miller was the second-fastest Pro-Am driver, setting a 1:26.036 lap in his Flying Lizard Motorsports entry, while Joel Miller’s Forty7 Motorpsorts Lamborghini tailed just four-thousandths of a second behind.

Forty7 would set the Am class pace however, with Jake Walker laying down the 10th-fastest time of the day in his solo-driven entry.

Christopher Tasca’s PPM Lamborghini led the way in the LB Cup class.

The vast majority of the 32-car field set their fastest laps in the morning’s 45-minute practice session, including the day’s pace-setters from each class.

Despite a host of new drivers in the field, both sessions ran relatively uninterrupted, with only local yellow flags being shown for the Rob Walker’s No. 45 PPM Lamborghini, which momentarily stopped on track in Practice 1 before continuing.

Sean Prewett’s World Speed machine also came to a halt momentarily as the checkered flag flew to end first practice but did not impact running.

Second practice saw a pair of off-track excursions for Keawn Tandon (NTE Sport) and Tasca, but both drivers continued without major damage.

Two consecutive 15-minute qualifying sessions to set the grid for both this weekend’s races will begin at 8 a.m. PT (11 a.m. ET) tomorrow.
