WTR’s Formal Tops Super Trofeo Practice

Danny Formal topped the time charts in both Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America practice sessions ahead of this weekend’s pair of races at Road America.

Formal, who along with Wayne Taylor Racing co-driver Graham Doyle remain undefeated on the season in Pro-Am, reeled off a best lap of 2:05.983 in Thursday’s opening session.

The Costa Rican edged out teammate Hampus Ericsson in the Pro class No. 1 WTR Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 by 0.298 seconds.

Will Bamber set the third quickest time overall in the No. 33 XONINE Racing entry, with the Pro championship-leading No. 29 TR3 Racing Lamborghini of Dennis Lind was fourth.

The No. 36 Kaizen Autosport entry of Joel Miller was fifth quickest and second in Pro-Am.

Paul Whiting led the way in the Am class, despite his SP Motorsports co-driver Daniel Morillo suffering a spin in Turn 14 with ten minutes left of the first session.

TB Autosports’ Philippe Touchette was quickest in LB Cup, meanwhile.

The first session saw two red flags, the first for the No. 17 ANSA Motorsports Lamborghini of Connor Qvale, who hit the barriers in Turn 5, continued with a reported flat tire before parking his car in Turn 6.

The No. 41 WTR entry of Paul Nemschoff brought out the second red, after stopping on track in Turn 9 moments after Morillo’s spin.

Practice 2 only saw a single red, for the No. 40 Forty7 Motorsports entry, which spun into the Turn 14 gravel.

All three cars will lose their fastest times in qualifying due to bringing out reds.

Qualifying is set for Friday at 9:35 a.m. CST, followed by Race 1 at 3:45 p.m. CST, which will be streamed live on Peacock as well as Lamborghini Squadra Corse and IMSA’s YouTube channels.
