Lamborghini ST 2016 Schedules, World Final Date Released

Schedules for the 2016 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America, Europe and Asia series have been released, during this weekend’s World Final at Sebring.

Next year’s World Final has been set for November 26-27 at Valencia in Spain.

The North American championship will again have a six-weekend schedule. It will join the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at the Mazda Raceway, Watkins Glen, Road America and Circuit of The Americas weekends, with two standalone events.

The series will join the IndyCar series at Boston on Labor Day weekend, and then conclude its regular season with two races at Valencia on November 24-25.

Road America and Boston replace VIR and Road Atlanta, respectively, from 2015.

The European and Asian rounds have also been confirmed, with the Asian dates still to be confirmed, and are listed below, at the bottom of this post.

In other notes from the Lamborghini press conference held Saturday evening:

***Giorgio Sanna, Head of Lamborghini Motorsport, confirmed more than 30 Lamborghini Huracán GT3s to run in 2016 between North America, Europe and Asia. Sanna said five cars will race in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, one more than the four already announced from O’Gara Motorsport, Change Racing, Paul Miller Racing and Konrad Motorsport. The remaining breakdown is 21 cars in Europe and seven in Asia.

***Sanna also confirmed eight drivers from Lamborghini’s junior program will debut in the Huracán GT3 in 2016.

***Lamborghini President/CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed 2015 saw the largest number of Super Trofeo cars worldwide, with a total of 84 cars. Starting in 2009 with 11 cars, by year, it’s grown in succession: 13, 13, 33, 46, 54 and now 84 this year.

***Paul Hembery, Head of Pirelli Motorsport, was among those in attendance and had perhaps the line of the evening when he said, “The dentists will have big business next week,” in reference to most Europe and Asia drivers tackling the notoriously bumpy Sebring International Circuit for the first time.
