Brendon Leitch and Nicolas Stati have won the overall Lamborghini World Finals title at Monza after triumphing from ninth on the grid in the second Pro/Pro-Am contest, while Bronislav Formanek and Anthony Pretorius took Pro-Am spoils.
It had looked like Will Bamber was in the prime position to take the Pro title in the first portion of the race as he ran second, while Stati languished at the back of the top-ten and Race 1 winner Elias De La Torre was spun to the back of the field at the first chicane by Jaden Conwright.
But Leitch was on a charge after taking over from Stati right at the beginning of the pit window and the Leipert Motorsport pair ultimately won by 6.297 seconds to give Leitch a second World Finals success after his Pro-Am triumph in 2024.
The opening stages of the race were led by Pro-Am contender Chris van der Drift, who maintained the lead after taking pole in the VSR entry from Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia.
But the contest was almost immediately put under safety car conditions after a hefty crash involving Al Morey and James Lawley at Curva Grande.
Fifteen minutes of the 45-minute race had elapsed by the time the race went green and on consecutive laps two key frontrunners were in strife at the first chicane.
The first victim was De La Torre, who had moved his TR3 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 up to eighth from 13th on the grid on the opening lap before being clattered into by Conwright upon the restart.
Next time around Nick Persing, who was running seventh in the No. 101 Wayne Taylor Racing machine he shared with last year’s winner Hampus Ericsson, was spun after being hit by Pro-Am frontrunner Wyatt Foster.
Stati then pitted at the end of the sixth lap of 21 as soon as the pit window opened and Leitch soon unleashed his pace while the leaders ran in a train.
By the time van der Drift handed over to Todd Kingsford, Leitch had climbed up to second and soon dispatched of the Pro-Am leader to take a dominant win and the title having finished runner-up in Saturday’s Race 1.
The No. 206 VSR car of Liam Sceats and Gustaw Wisniewski finished a comfortable second, while the battle for the final place on the podium went down to the final minutes.
XONINE racer Bamber got the run on Kingsford into the first chicane on the last lap to seal third, but it was not enough for him to take the title.
Colin Queen followed Bamber through to secure fourth place in the ANSA Motorsport car that Tommi Gore started 26th.
Behind, Lind was on a charge after climbing aboard the TR3 machine and nabbed fifth on the run to the line but was left wondering what might have been.
Van der Drift and Kingsford were classified sixth overall but took the Pro-Am victory, while second in class was more than enough for Micanek Motorsport pair Formanek and Pretorius to add the World title to their European Pro-Am crown.
The race marked the final appearance for the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2, which is due to be replaced next season by the new Temerario Super Trofeo machine.
RESULTS: Race 2
