Former Skip Barber MX-5 Cup champion Bryan Hixon will step up to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America series this year, having been confirmed as the final driver in Mitchum Motorsports’ three-car program in the IMSA-sanctioned championship.

Hixon, who will pilot a Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo, won his first MX-5 championship in 2012 before going onto claim the 2012-2013 and 2014-2015 Skip Barber Winter MX-5 MAZDASPEED Challenge titles.

While having enjoyed recent success, Hixon’s racing career began in the open-wheel ranks in 2003.

“I am excited to get the Super Troefo season started. So excited, I ordered a Huracan from Lamborghini Gold Coast and took it out on COTA with Edgeaddicts.com track days,” Hixon said.

“My goals are to keep it clean and adapt as quickly as I can to the Gallardo. Laguna is special, not only did I win my first race there, but my parents have a tradition of attending the May races. I’m excited to get in that Lamborghini with my parents cheering me on.”

The Texan joins ATV champion racer Dylan Murcott and NASCAR driver Brandon Gdovic as the trio of Mitcum drivers set to compete for the Super Trofeo championship.

“It’s good to have a fellow Texan on the team!” said Texas native and team manager Sunny Voelker.

“Bryan is not only a good driver, with the trophies to back it up, he’s an optimistic and down to earth guy. Which makes him not only a good one to work with, but his attitude is the right one to have behind the wheel.” continued Voelker.
