Nelson Piquet Jr. laid down the quickest time of the day for Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America competitors at NOLA Motorsports Park following two practice sessions at the New Orleans circuit.
The ANSA Motorsports driver reeled off a best time of 1:36.137 in his No. 30 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 to edge out the No. 1 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing entry of Danny Formal by a mere 0.003 seconds.
Patrick Kujala in the No. 50 O’Gara Motorsport/Change Racing/USRT Lamborghini was third on the time sheets, with all three fast laps set in the opening 40-minute session on Friday morning.
The Pro-Am class No. 21 Dream Racing Lamborghini of Justin Price was fastest in the afternoon although one second slower than Piquet’s pace-setting lap from the first session, with track temperatures soaring later into the day.
Precision Performance Motorsports’ John Dubets was quickest among the Pro-Am competitors on the day thanks to a 1:36.824 lap in Practice 1, while Nikko Reger led the way in the Am class in the sister No. 46 PPM entry.
The No. 54 Dream Racing entry of Jason Keats, meanwhile, paced the LB Cup class as the only category leader to post the fastest time of the day in the second session.
While the second session did not see any major incidents, Practice 1 had a single red flag for the No. 51 MCR Racing Lamborghini of Claude Senhoreti, which returned to action in the afternoon.
A total of 31 cars set laps on Friday.
Qualifying is set to get underway Saturday at 9:30 a.m. ET.
