A new round at Road America has replaced Barber Motorsports Park, which was due to open the 2020 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season, as one of several changes made to the schedules for the single-make series amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Barber round, scheduled for April 3-5, was canceled earlier this month by IndyCar.
Confirmed on Monday, the North America series is now slated to kick off at Watkins Glen International in late June on the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship weekend.
It will be followed by the previously announced trip to the streets of Toronto, as part of the NTT IndyCar Series event, with Road America being added on Aug. 6-8 on the NASCAR XFinity Series weekend at the four-mile Wisconsin circuit.
Dates for races at Virginia International Raceway and Misano remain unchanged, although the final rounds of the season on U.S. soil will take place one week earlier at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, due to a scheduling change for WeatherTech Championship competitors.
Lamborghini Squadra Corse has also communicated adjustments to the Super Trofeo Europe schedule, which sees Misano replace the scheduled season-opener at Monza, while the Super Trofeo Asia season has been suspended, with alternative events planned.
The decision was taken due to the “ongoing uncertainty” over international travel restrictions and “widespread social disruption” in many countries, which will likely last for months.
Squadra Corse is working to replace events with an “alternative calendar” later in the year for customer teams, in cooperation with its Asian promoter SRO Motorsports Group.
