WTR’s Formal, Marcelli to Start from Pole Positions

Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing’s Danny Formal and Kyle Marcelli will start from pole positions for the pair of Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America races at Road America.

Formal reeled off a best lap of 2:06.141 in Q1 in the Pro class championship-leading No. 1 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 prior to a red flag with eight minutes to go in the 15-minute session.

The red, for an accident by the No. 64 Flying Lizard Motorsports Lamborghini of Tom Tait, who went off-course in Turn 10, did not see Q1 restart.

Q2 saw Formal’s co-driver Kyle Marcelli record a 2:05.844 lap time to score pole for the second 50-minute race of the weekend.

Marcelli edged out the No. 71 TPC Racing Lamborghini by 0.202 seconds.

Pro-Am class pole honors for Race 1 went to the No. 8 O’Gara Motorsport/Change Racing/USRT Lamborghini of Patrick Liddy, who set the second quickest time overall in Q1 after topping the overall time sheets on Thursday.

John Casto Dubets in the No. 46 Precision Performance Motorsports Lamborghini took the Pro-Am pole for Race 2, while teammate Nikko Reger claimed top qualifying honors in the Am class for Race 2.

Shehan Chandrasoma took his MCR Racing entry to the Am class pole for Race 1, while Flying Lizard’s Slade Stewart, meanwhile, swept pole honors in LB Cup.

Race 1 gets underway at 9:50 a.m. CT (10:50 a.m. ET) with live coverage on Peacock and IMSA.tv.

The second race is scheduled for a 1:55 p.m. CT (2:55 p.m. ET) start on Sunday following the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race.
