The Ford SuperVan 4.2 has become the new unofficial lap record holder at Mount Panorama Circuit for closed cars, breaking Jules Gounon’s lap set just one week ago in an unrestricted Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Romain Dumas stormed to a best lap of 1:56.3247 in the 2000-horsepower all-electric prototype vehicle on Sunday during a demonstration run at the Thrifty Bathurst 500 Supercars season opener.

Dumas’ time was three-tenths quicker than Gounon’s 1:56.6054 set last weekend during the Repco Bathurst 12 Hour weekend.

Both times are unofficial as neither were set during an official qualifying or race session at Bathurst.

Gounon and the Ford SuperVan also completed exhibition laps last weekend, leading to the suspicion that a lap record attempt would be made with the vehicle that took part in this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
