Multimatic, Inc. will build the new 2016 Ford GT in Canada, Ford’s president of the Americas Joe Hinrichs confirmed to reporters at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto.
The likely limited production run of the new, primarily carbon fiber and aluminum, 600-plus horsepower supercar will begin next year in Markham, Ontario.
Multimatic and Ford have maintained a healthy, long-term relationship, and the team currently campaigns two Mustangs in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge GS class.
Neither partner has confirmed the anticipated GTE race version of the Ford GT, and neither did two Ford senior designers when asked by Sportscar365 at the Chicago Auto Show on Thursday.
A formal announcement of the Ford GT’s race plans is expected to come in June.
