After enjoying success in both Asia and North America, David Cheng will focus his 2015 sports car racing efforts on Europe, as the two-time Asian Le Mans Series champion, along with Adderly Fong, have been confirmed as part of Pegasus Racing’s effort in the European Le Mans Series.
Cheng and Fong will share the wheel of the French squad’s Morgan LMP2 EVO Nissan with Leo Roussel in the five-round championship, which kicks off at Silverstone in April.
They’ll also take part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, after receiving an entry from the Automobile Club de l’Ouest on Friday.
“Having taken wins and podiums in the American Le Mans Series in LMPC and capturing the Asian Le Mans Series title twice the next challenge is to look towards European Le Mans Series, WEC and of course the 24 Hours of Le Mans race itself,” Cheng said.
The Chinese pairing took part at Le Mans last year in an OAK Racing Team Asia-entered Ligier JS P2 Honda, finishing a respectable seventh in class in the car’s debut race.
Cheng, meanwhile, went onto score the Asian LMS title with Ho-Pin Tung, claiming victories in all four races with OAK’s Morgan-Judd.
“Our sponsors and partners in China are looking for the most effective exposure with a team with two Chinese drivers,” Cheng said. “To have Le Mans will be an important part of our program.”
In addition to their ELMS and Le Mans programs, Cheng said there’s also interest in the team running select FIA World Endurance Championship rounds in Asia later this year.
