Heavy rain provided some very tricky conditions for the two 20 minute qualifying sessions which were interrupted by several red flags.

Brendon Hartley set the overall fastest time for Round 4 of the European Le Mans Series, the 3 Hours of the Hungaroring.  The New Zealander’s lap of 2m09.301 in the No. 18 Oreca-Nissan was over two seconds quicker than his nearest rival, Patric Niederhauser in the No. 43 Race Performance Oreca-Judd.

The LMPC pole was claimed by the series leading FLM Oreca 09 of Gary Hirsch, posting the 6th fastest time of the morning with a 2m13.959 lap.

The LMGTE and GTC classes were upside down with the GTC class No. 62 AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 of Lorenzo Case setting the quickest time in the 20 minute session, 1.4 seconds ahead of Andrea Bertolini in the No. 66 JMW Motorsport Ferrari 458 LMGTE class car.  Nick Tandy was the nearest rival to Bertolini of the LMGTE runners, posting a session best time of 2m24.568 in the No. 77 Proton Competition Porsche.

Four of the top five qualifiers in the GTE / GTC session were GTC runners, with double race winner Viktor Shaitar posting a lap just 0.1 seconds slower than Andrea Bertolini’s time.

The 3 Hours of the Hungaroring is due to start at 4pm (local) and the entire grid will be watching the skies and hoping the rain doesn’t cause any problems for the penultimate race of the 2013 season.
