Christian Klien delivered the fastest lap of the day, as the Austrian put his New Blood by Morand Racing Morgan-Judd on top in the second ELMS practice session at Paul Ricard.

Klien, who reeled off a 1:49.473 lap time, improved on Nelson Panciatici’s time from this morning by more than six tenths, but only beat the No. 38 Jota Sport Zytek-Nissan of Simon Dolan, Harry Tincknell and Filipe Albuquerque by a mere 0.004s.

Thiriet by TDS Racing’s Ligier JS P2 – Nissan ended up in third (+0.139s), while championship leaders Oliver Webb, Paul Loup Chatin and Nelson Panciatici couldn’t repeat their performance from FP1, the Signatech Alpine A450b delivering the fourth quickest time in the afternoon session (+0.300s).

In GTE, the No. 72 SMP Racing Ferrari 458 Italia of Andrea Bertolini, Viktor Shaitar and Sergey Zlobin went fastest with a 1:55.913 lap.

Gulf Racing’s new Porsche 911 RSR was the only car to mix in with the Ferraris, ending the session in sixth, while the team’s Aston Martin Vantage V8 didn’t set a time in the afternoon after an engine problem sidelined the No. 85 crew.

GTC was spearheaded by the ProSpeed Competition Porsche in the hands of Mike Parisy, followed by the No. 71 SMP Racing and No. 94 AF Corse Ferraris.

Sunday morning’s qualifying session gets underway at 9 a.m. local time, and will be streamed live at www.europeanlemansseries.com
