Team Virage has announced that Nelson Piquet Jr. will completes its LMP2 Pro-Am lineup for the upcoming European Le Mans Series season.
Ex-Formula 1 racer Piquet Jr. will join the previously-announced Matt Bell and Tony Wells in Virage’s No. 19 Oreca 07 Gibson for the six-round campaign, which kicks off next weekend with the 4 Hours of Barcelona.
The Brazilian makes the move to the Polish-flagged team after contesting the 2023 season in the Pro-Am category for United Autosports.
“I’m delighted to participate in this ELMS season with Team Virage,” said Piquet Jr. “The team was looking for an experienced driver, and the possibility of competing for them arose.
“It wasn’t in my plans to race in Europe this year, but I am very excited to be out there with Virage, and I hope we will be successful already in Barcelona.”
The Virage car initially had Rob Hodes and Ian Rodriguez listed against it on the full-season ELMS entry list when it was revealed late last year.
Rodriguez was part of the squad’s 2023 lineup along with Tatiana Calderon, while Bronze-rated Hodes sat out the season after sustaining two broken ribs in a crash during practice for the opening round at Barcelona.
