Two-time IMSA GT Le Mans class champion Jan Magnussen is set for a rare GT3 appearance in next weekend’s Michelin Le Mans Cup round at Spa-Francorchamps.

The former Corvette Racing star and four-time 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner is named on the entry list for the penultimate round of the season for the ACO-run competition, which supports the European Le Mans Series.

Magnussen, 49, is getting behind the wheel of a GMB Motorsport Honda NSX GT3 Evo22.

He will share driving duties with Bronze-rated Lars Engelbreckt Pedersen and replaces FIA World Endurance Championship racer Mikkel O. Pedersen in the No. 88 entry.

The all-Danish pairing, driving for a Danish team, will form part of a five-car GT3 class within a 37-car field, the rest of which features LMP3 machinery.

Magnussen’s last competitive appearance in a GT3 car came in 2016 when he finished third at the Paul Ricard 1000km sharing a Team WRT Audi R8 LMS GT3 with Filipe Albuquerque and Rodrigo Baptista.

Following his departure from Corvette Racing’s factory GTE operation at the end of 2019, Magnussen raced in TCR Denmark and also contested the 24 Hours of Le Mans with privateer Ferrari team JMW Motorsport.

For 2021 he added a part-time FIA World Endurance Championship LMP2 program with Danish squad High Class Racing while continuing to race in touring cars.

The LMP2 campaign included Magnussen making his 23rd Le Mans appearance alongside his son and current Formula 1 driver Kevin.

This year, Magnussen is competing in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and currently sits ninth in the championship standings.

The team that he is joining for Spa, GMB Motorsport, leads the Michelin Le Mans Cup standings while its No. 55 Honda duo of Kristian Poulsen and Kasper H. Jensen are at the top of the drivers’ table with two rounds to go.
