Le Mans Entry List Revealed

Field of 56 cars confirmed for the 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours…

The 56 entries revealed Thursday for the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans will feature 10 LMP1, 17 LMP2, 12 GTE Pro and 16 GTE Am entries, plus the experimental Nissan ZEOD RC as the Garage 56 entrant.

Of the 56, 31 are full-season entrants in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Two surprises emerged, one in regards to the GTE field and additionally with a new logo for the event, with the Le Mans letters underneath the 24H. It replaces the prior one, which was introduced in 1978.

In LMP1, seven of the 10 total class entries fall under the new LMP1-H designation for hybrid technology, with three Audi R18 e-tron quattros, two Toyota TS040 Hybrids and two Porsche 919 hybrids.

The LMP1-L privateer field of three features, as anticipated, the pair of ORECA-designed Rebellion R-One Toyotas and Lotus’ T129.

A stacked grid of 17 LMP2 entries will compete, including seven from the FIA WEC and several others from the European Le Mans Series.

The Oreca 03 Nissan is the most popular package with seven of the 17 cars, fielded by Millennium Racing (2 cars), SMP Racing (2 cars), Sebastien Loeb Racing, KCMG and Murphy Prototypes.

Defending class champions OAK Racing have a single Morgan Nissan listed for Alex Brundle, and an additional OAK Team Asia Ligier JS P2 HPD for David Cheng.

In GTE Pro, the 12 entries feature the seven FIA WEC-entered cars plus a pair of Corvette C7.Rs and SRT Vipers. The additional 12th car is a third GTE Pro entry from Aston Martin Racing.

Risi Competizione, which had earned one of the automatic invitations to Le Mans from the American Le Mans Series, is not listed. Risi is instead listed as fifth reserve, with Tracy Krohn as nominated driver.

Ferrari is the most popular manufacturer in the GTE Am class of 16, with eight F458 Italias set for this year’s endurance classic.

AF Corse has four F458s under its own banner, plus two in GTE Pro, and additional support planned for 8Star Motorsports and SMP Racing, respectively.

Dempsey Racing is also confirmed to return, with European partner Proton Competition.

The 10 reserve entries feature 5 prototypes and GT cars apiece. Notable there is Jacques Nicolet in the Larbre Competition Morgan Judd as first LMP reserve, as well as Chris Dyson in the Caterham Racing Zytek Nissan as third LMP reserve.
