The 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship schedule has been approved by the World Motor Sport Council, confirming the new event in Mexico City and a return to Circuit of The Americas, amid financial concerns with the Texan circuit.
A contract between the WEC and promoters of the new event at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez was signed last month in Bahrain. It marks an expansion to a nine-round calendar for the first time in the championship’s history.
No changes have been made to any of the WEC dates from the provisional schedule released in September.
The same has been the case with the 21-round Formula One calendar, which was also ratified on Wednesday, with its new event in Baku remaining a direct conflict to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
