Bamber Named Porsche Factory Driver

Following his breakout performances in Porsche’s single-make series, Earl Bamber has been promoted to factory driver status for 2015.

The 24-year-old New Zealander claimed the 2014 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup championship in his rookie season, which also wrapping up his second consecutive Porsche Carrera Cup Asia title.

Bamber made his GTE debut at this year’s Petit Le Mans, finishing second in a Porsche North America-entered Porsche 911 RSR with Patrick Long and Michael Christensen.

He will start his 2015 campaign in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in one of the factory Porsche North America entries. Porsche has yet to confirm its full season GT lineups for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship or FIA World Endurance Championship.

Also announced Saturday was the retention of Connor De Phillippi as a Porsche Junior driver. The 21-year-old Californian will be joined by German Sven Mueller as the only two Juniors next year.

The fate of Klaus Bachler and Alex Riberas, who were both Juniors in 2014, is unclear.
