Tom Kristensen received recognition for his achievements in the sporting world Tuesday, as the nine-time Le Mans winner has been knighted by his country of Denmark.

The nine-time Le Mans winner was presented with the Order of the Dannebrog by Denmark’s Queen Margarethe II. The ceremony was held today in Copenhagen.

“I am very proud,” said Kristensen. “It is a great honor to know that the Royal Family has been following my career and recognizes me as a sportsman and ambassador of Denmark.”

Kristensen is the 2013 FIA World Endurance Champion and currently sits third in this year’s title race heading into next month’s Six Hours of Circuit of The Americas. The Audi factor driver is also a former American Le Mans Series champion.
