Mercedes-AMG has formally unveiled its next-generation GT3 model, which will be based on a new production car developed out of the concept model revealed last year.
The Stuttgart brand on Tuesday revealed both the new Mercedes-AMG GT3, (pictured above, red highlights), as well as the road car its homologation is based upon (yellow highlights), which has been named the Mercedes‑AMG GT Black Series.
It is intended to replace the current Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, which has been in action in 2020, and although no specific date was named in the release, the marque has previously outlined an ambition to have its new GT3 car racing in 2027.
It follows Mercedes-AMG showing its concept model in action on track last October, following an initial teaser of the new machine last summer.
“With the unveiling of the concept, we can now officially name the new Mercedes‑AMG GT3, with which we aim to continue the success story in Customer Racing for Mercedes‑AMG Motorsport,” said head of Mercedes-AMG motorsport Christopher Sagemuller.
“Our goal is to once again present a vehicle that sets the benchmark. We have already gained important insights from the initial tests.
“We are now entering the next phase of development and will also be testing on racetracks relevant to GT Sport.”
The new AMG GT3 will be the first race model to be produced by the brand since the establishment of the Affalterbach Racing GmbH subsidiary in 2024.
So far, its test program has included visits to Bilster Berg in Germany, Portimao and Monteblanco on top of the brand’s in-house track at Immendingen, with testing on the Nürburgring Nordschleife having also begun more recently.
Black Series refers to the long-running line of high-performance Mercedes-AMG road models that are intended for on-track use while remaining road legal.
“We are developing the most extreme Black Series ever,” said Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes‑AMG GmbH. “At the same time, we want to set the next record-breaker in motorsport with the future GT3.
“The foundation for this is the Concept AMG GT Track Sport – a technology demonstrator that was more than just a concept from the very start. It is our unambiguous commitment to maximum performance, a promise for the racetrack and the road alike.
“At AMG, we develop vehicles to exceed expectations. And that is exactly what the future Black Series and the new GT3 will do.”
