IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship drivers Patrick Pilet and Dirk Werner will complete Porsche’s factory GTE-Pro lineup for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the German manufacturer confirmed late Saturday.
Pilet will join full-season FIA World Endurance Championship pilots Richard Lietz and Fred Makowiecki in the No. 91 Porsche 911 RSR, with Werner teaming with Michael Christensen and Kevin Estre in the No. 92 car.
Pilet, Werner and Makowiecki are coming off a runner-up finish together in January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona and currently sit fourth in the WeatherTech Championship GTLM points standings after two races.
“Choosing the drivers for the most important race of the year was actually easy,” said Head of Porsche Motorsport Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser. “Our driver squad is so strong we basically couldn’t make a mistake.
“Patrick Pilet and Dirk Werner are the perfect complement to our regular team members.
“It is definitely an advantage that they all know each other very well from the races in the USA. We’re in an excellent position for Le Mans with these drivers.”
Porsche returns to a two-car, full-season WEC effort with its new mid-engined 911 RSR, which debuted at Daytona in January.
