Porsche has revealed a special livery that will feature on its three Penske-run factory LMDh cars at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.

The German manufacturer has introduced a vibrant muti-colored design to celebrate 75 years of Porsche sports cars.

Each factory Porsche 963 will have a striped body, with the colors referring to famous liveries from Porsche’s motorsport history. They will be distinguished by the colors of their vertical fins.

Porsche Penske Motorsport is fielding three cars at Le Mans, with two coming from the team’s FIA World Endurance Championship program and the third being brought over from the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship operation.

“This year, we are celebrating 75 years of Porsche sports cars and endurance racing in particular, is a core element of our Porsche DNA,” said  Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board, Sales and Marketing at Porsche.

“Therefore, the 100th anniversary of the Le Mans 24 Hours also has a special significance for the Porsche brand as well.

“The color scheme of the three works race cars connects both anniversaries. Every color on the Porsche 963s has its own Le Mans history. And we are very proud of every single one of them.”

The orange stripe on the Le Mans livery alludes to the Gulf colors that were famously used on the Porsche 917.

A pink stripe nods to the ‘Pink Pig’ Porsche 917 as well as the heritage livery of the Porsche 911 RSR that won the GTE-Pro class at Le Mans in 2018.

The ‘Hippie’ and ‘Salzburg’ Porsche 917s are also mentioned, along with the yellow that adorned the Penske-run Porsche RS Spyders in the American Le Mans Series.

Furthermore, colors drawn from the well-known Rothmans and Martini liveries are incorporated into the anniversary scheme.

“In Le Mans, our three Porsche 963 will be truly eye-catching at the 75th anniversary of our brand and the 100th anniversary of the 24-hour race,” said Thomas Laudenbach, Porsche Vice President of Motorsport.

“I do not doubt that this design will immediately win the hearts of fans. We embraced the vehicle designs from Porsche’s rich and illustrious history at Le Mans.

“The 917 as a pink ‘pig’ and the ‘hippie car’ from 1970 – these liveries have made racing history and are still popular today.

“With our special design on the three Porsche 963, we’re continuing this great tradition at Le Mans.”
