Herberth Motorsport scored a sweep of the overall podium in Saturday’s Hankook 12H Monza, in a dramatic finish between the German squad’s Porsche 911 GT3 R entries.
The No. 92 car of Jurgen Haring crossed the line to take the win after the sister No. 91 Porsche ground to a halt at Variante del Rettifilo in the final ten minutes of the enduro, which was red-flagged for two hours on Saturday afternoon for a massive storm that knocked out electricity at the circuit.
Haring edged out the No. 91 Herberth entry of former Porsche junior Klaus Bachler by 28.741 seconds to take the win for he and co-drivers Taki Konstantinou and Alfred Renauer.
The team’s No. 91 entry was still classified third overall, completing 280 laps in the longest endurance race to be held at Autodromo Nazionale di Monza.
The No. 58 MP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo finished fourth overall in the team’s 24H Series debut, with the No. 34 Car Collection Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo completing the top-five, despite having to serve a ten-lap penalty for work on the car’s electronics while in parc ferme on Friday night.
The No. 746 Reiter Engineering KTM GTX Concept, which led the race overall heading into the overnight intervention, lost what looked to be a certain class victory in GTX after electrical issues cost the German team almost an hour in the pits.
Class honors instead went to the ARC Bratislava Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo of Miro Konopka, Mato Konopka and Mato Homola, which overcame electrical trouble of its own to finish sixth overall.
Speed Lover claimed the 991 class honors with its No. 978 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car while the race’s only GT4 entry, the No. 450 MDM Motorsport BMW M4 GT4, overcame a left-front puncture in the final hour of the race to finish 14th overall.
TCR class honors, meanwhile, went to the No. 101 Red Camel-Jordans.nl Cupra TCR DSG of Ivo and Luc Breukers following mechanical issues for the Brutal Fish by KCMG Honda Civic Type-R TCR in the final 40 minutes of the race.
Nineteen of the 23 starters were classified at the finish of the race.
