Audi factory ace Rene Rast has been tabbed to replace the injured Craig Lowndes at next month’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.

Lowndes has been ruled out after sustaining a broken collarbone, and Rast was announced during Australian TV show Sunrise with Garth Tander, speaking on 7 Sport.

It will see Rast join the list of drivers going straight from the Rolex 24 at Daytona, where he’ll race one of the new specification Audi R8 LMS for Magnus Racing, to Bathurst and then into the Melbourne Performance Centre-run, Jamec-Pem Racing Audi R8 LMS with Tander and Steven McLaughlin.

Rast finished fifth at Bathurst in 2014, sharing an Audi R8 LMS ultra with Rahel Frey and Laurens Vanthoor.
