Audi Sport customer team Attempto Racing has announced plans to enter the DTM this year with an Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II driven by German prospect Marius Zug.

The Hanover-based squad has fielded GT3 Audis since a switch from Lamborghini in 2018 and has mainly competed in Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS.

It also won the 2019 Gulf 12 Hours and was selected by Audi Sport to run one of the manufacturer’s works-supported entries at the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa last year.

Driver signing Zug made his car racing debut three years ago when he finished second in the 2019 ADAC GT4 Germany and GT4 European Series standings driving BMW M4 GT4s.

The 19-year-old also has experience in BMW M6 GT3 machinery, having represented MRS GT-Racing and Roberto Ravaglia’s BMW Team Italia outfit in Italian GT.

This year’s DTM campaign will mark his first season behind the wheel of an Audi.

Attempto has only announced the single entry so far, with no indications of whether it will add more Audis to its DTM stable.

“With Marius Zug, we have a jewel in our team,” commented team principal Arkin Aka.

“I have been following him for some years already and I was pleased to notice how he was getting stronger and stronger and the way he developed in GT4.

“I was overjoyed that he was now available and that I was able to offer him a drive. I am certain that he will surprise in GT3 as well.

“For us, this is a dream coming true. We had already been looking at becoming involved in the premium brand that is DTM for a while.

“Now, we will do everything to leave a good impression on this high-quality stage. With Marius, we think we are capable to score results in the midfield and towards the front and with a little bit of luck even more.”

Audi was represented on last year’s DTM grid by Abt Sportsline and Team Rosberg.

Abt has already completed its driver lineup for the 2022 season with three-time champion Rene Rast and newly-signed Audi factory driver Ricardo Feller joining Kelvin van der Linde in a three-car operation.
