The DTM will visit Imola for the first time next year after confirming the Italian circuit as the fourth stop on its 2022 schedule.

Imola is set to host the German-based series on June 17-19, filling in one of the two TBA slots that appeared on the provisional nine-round calendar last month.

The move ensures that the DTM remains in Italy for its second season with FIA GT3 cars after Monza staged the season-opener this year.

Imola is poised to become the fifth Italian track to hold DTM races on a list that also includes Mugello, Misano and Adria.

“The Imola circuit has an impressive history and is known as a quite challenging, fast circuit,” said Frederic Elsner, director of event and operations for DTM series oganizer ITR.

“Imola fits perfectly into our calendar and is another track that is requiring the most from our drivers and teams.

“Moreover, DTM has a close connection with Italy, particularly as a result of the participation of Italian drivers, teams and manufacturers like Ferrari, Lamborghini and formerly also Alfa Romeo.

“We are massively looking forward to the premiere at the famous Imola circuit.”

In addition to arriving on the DTM schedule, Imola is also returning to the European Le Mans Series in 2022.

International GT Open, which like the DTM runs with GT3 cars on Michelin tires, and the Italian GT Championship were the main sports car racing visitors this year.

“After the announcements of Formula 1 and the European Le mans Series, here is another prestigious championship that has chosen Imola for its Italian round,” commented circuit manager Pietro Benvenuti.

“DTM is undoubtedly one of the most important series at European level. I am convinced that fans will not miss the opportunity to experience this great series at Imola.”

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix venue joins Portimao, Lausitzring, Norisring, Nürburgring, Spa, Red Bull Ring and Hockenheim on the latest DTM calendar, with the location of round three still to be announced by the series.
