KÜS Team Bernhard has become the second Porsche team to join next season’s DTM grid with a single-car entry for series debutant Thomas Preining.

The team led by two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard will run the No. 24 Porsche 911 GT3 R after fielding two cars of the same type in ADAC GT Masters this year.

Preining drove for the squad in GT Masters, teaming up with 2020 champion Christian Engelhart.

KÜS Team Bernhard joins SSR Performance in announcing a DTM program for next year, which heralds the first full-time presence for Porsche in the German championship.

“This is a fully new challenge,” said Bernhard. “I am very proud of being allowed to announce our new top-notch program for the 2022 season.

“We will be racing in DTM with a Porsche 911 GT3 R. I think that after six years in ADAC GT Masters, we are well prepared for it.

“With our driver Thomas Preining, we have an important constant factor in our team. I know about his qualities and I am very happy that he is part of our program.”

Preining is a Porsche factory driver and earned that title at the end of last year, having worked his way through the manufacturer’s Junior and Young Professional status levels.

“I am super excited and motivated for the DTM next year,” said the Austrian.

“Since I learned about this, I have been working avidly every day. After all, I want to be prepared for this season in the best possible way in order to get the project off to a good start right away. I have full confidence in the team and everyone involved.

“I think that we should be definitely taken into account and that we are able to achieve something.”

In addition to making its DTM debut, KÜS Team Bernhard has also committed to the supporting DTM Trophy with a pair of Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsports.
