Macau debutant Robin Frijns has set fastest time in the second practice session for the FIA GT World Cup.

Frijns took his No. 1 Audi Sport Team WRT Audi R8 LMS to a quick lap of 2:18.507 in Friday morning’s session, 0.4 seconds faster than Maro Engel’s pace-setting time from Thursday in his Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM entry.

But it was fellow debutant Markus Pommer, in the Aust Motorsport Audi, who created the biggest sensation of the half-hour warm up for this afternoon’s all important qualifying session.

With the session coming to a close Pommer momentarily claimed the fastest lap and then spun at more than 250 km/h on Mandarin Bend, the corner which claimed FIA GT Cup winner Laurens Vanthoor last year.

Instead of flipping as did Vanthoor, Pommer’s Audi spun twice down the long straight, marginally missing the wall.

Pommer still claimed third fastest in the session behind Frijns and Augusto Farfus (BMW Team Schnitzer).

The top three cars were under yesterday’s fastest lap in a session in which most teams concentrated on set up for qualifying, with 13 cars improving their times from the first session.

Qualifying is set for later this afternoon.
