The FIA has extended Pirelli’s deal to supply the FIA GT World Cup race in Macau for the next three editions following a tender process.

Pirelli provided tires to the FIA GT World Cup from 2015 until the most recent event in 2019, before it transitioned to a competition for local competitors during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For this month’s FIA GT World Cup, the Italian tire manufacturer will bring the P Zero DHF that is used globally in GT racing, although it is developing a new generation of tires for the final year of the agreement in 2025.

Each GT3 car piloted by a single driver will be allocated five sets of slick tires and three sets of wet-weather tires at this year’s event.

Additionally, Pirelli and the FIA are implementing RFID technology to monitor tire characteristics for the first time in the FIA GT World Cup.

“Held as part of the Macau Grand Prix, the FIA GT World Cup represents a unique challenge among competitions for GT3 cars,” said FIA Senior Circuit Sport Director Marek Nawarecki.

“The Guia Circuit doesn’t allow for any pre-event testing, so it is crucial to have a reliable tire that teams and drivers can trust 100 percent.

“Pirelli brings a wealth of experience from various forms of motorsport, has an established working relationship with the FIA through different disciplines and series, and has a very strong presence in the worldwide GT3 marketplace.

“This is a natural partnership for the FIA GT World Cup that makes sense for a lot of reasons.”

Pirelli also supplies tires to the Formula 3 World Cup which forms part of the Macau Grand Prix bill alongside the GT races and other disciplines.

“We are delighted to return to Macau as part of a long-term agreement to supply the prestigious FIA GT World Cup; one of the true highlights of the international GT racing scene,” said Pirelli’s Head of Motorsport Mario Isola.

“We will also be exclusively supplying our bespoke P Zero tires to the Formula 3 World Cup: the race that every young driver wants to win, as just a quick glance at the illustrious list of previous winners shows.

“From the perspective of a tire supplier, Macau not only has the glamour that makes this circuit a racing legend, but it also contains a massively varied technical challenge.

“From the flat-out wide straights of the city section to the twisty and demanding ‘mountain’ sector, all the way to what is probably the slowest and tightest hairpin bend in the history of motorsport.”

This year’s FIA GT World Cup sports a 21-driver entry including former winners Laurens Vanthoor, Edoardo Mortara, Maro Engel, Augusto Farfus and Raffaele Marciello.
