A new Silver Cup has been introduced into this year’s FIA GT World Cup contest in Macau while entries have now opened for the Nov. 19-22 event.
The contest had just been eligible for FIA Platinum and Gold-rated drivers but the new class has been introduced in response to what the FIA has described as “the growing strength and visibility of Silver-rated competitors in GT racing.”
The class winner will share a prize fund totaling $22,000 and have their own dedicated podium ceremony.
Bronze and Silver drivers were banned from taking part in the event following an incident-filled contest in 2016, but the race has featured a decline in entries in recent years with Mercedes-AMG electing not to have a presence in 2025, when the field numbered just 16 cars.
In a statement, the FIA said: “The initiative creates a pathway for talented drivers seeking to establish themselves at the highest level of GT competition.
“By racing alongside some of the sport’s most accomplished professionals on one of the world’s most demanding circuits, Silver-rated drivers will have a unique opportunity to demonstrate their speed, racecraft and resilience on a global stage, while gaining valuable experience among the GT racing elite.”
Teams and drivers seeking to take part this year have until July 17 to register their entry.
