Kessel Racing will return to defend its victory in the Gulf 12 Hours, with the Swiss squad having confirmed a three-car entry with Ferrari 488 GT3 cars for the Dec. 14-16 event at Yas Marina Circuit.
The 2015 and 2016 overall winners, which along with AF Corse are the only teams to have contested all previous six editions of the race, will be seeking its third consecutive victory.
The team’s driver lineup has yet to be announced, but in the past featured Ferrari factory drivers.
Race promoter Andrea Ficarelli expects GT3 cars to still fight for overall honors, despite the introduction of a fully ACO-backed LMP3 class, which will be limited to Pro-Am driver lineups only.
United Autosports has already committed to entering three Ligier JS P3 Nissans.
“While the introduction of the LMP3 cars will bring added excitement to the race, we still consider GT to be the top class and expect them to race for the absolute win as “pro” driver line ups will be allowed in the GT class only,” Ficarelli said.
