Driving Force Events, organizers of the Gulf 12 Hours in Abu Dhabi, have today announced a major new endurance race in collaboration with the Intercity Istanbul Park track in Turkey.

The first race will take place on Aug. 9 and will be open to a mix of GT, Sport Prototype and touring cars.

Taking place at the peak of summer in Turkey, it is expected that the event will be one of the hottest endurance races in the world, and organizers expect the race to become a major motorsport attraction in the long term.

The 5.338km Intercity Istanbul Park circuit hosted the Turkish Formula 1 Grand Prix for seven years (2005-2011), and was once hailed by Bernie Ecclestone as ‘the best race track in the world’.

The circuit boasts excellent facilities and advantageous logistics with its location just 12km from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport (SAW) and 21km from Pendick Port, where team’s trucks can easily arrive in three days by direct ferry from Toulon (France) and Trieste (Italy).

Hosting an endurance race in August will also afford opportunities for participating drivers and team personnel to take summer vacation in some of Turkey’s premier holiday locations.

Further information, including the length of the race, will be revealed in the near future.
