British open-wheel and sports car ace Richard Lyons will return to the wheel of the Japanese team’s Audi R8 LMS ultra, paired with Tomonobu Fujii, who replaces countryman Akihiro Tsuzuki in the GT300 class entry.
Fuji, who drove for the Hankook Porsche team in 2013, has eight career wins in Super GT competition, while having finished second in the GT300 drivers’ championship in 2012. Lyons, a former factory Nismo and Lexus driver, won the 2012 GT500 title.
With additional involvement coming from the German manufacturer, the Mikio Hitotsuyama-run squad has been renamed to “Audi Sport Team Hitotsuyama” for 2014, with the GT3-spec car to carry the No. 21.
It will no doubt be one of the leading contenders in the GT300 class this year, which remains unchanged from a technical rules standpoint.
